The Department of Public Safety (DPS) along with Syracuse University Ambulance (SUA) teamed up to conduct a training exercise yesterday morning at Lyons Hall.
The event was a simulated active shooter scenario. DPS Officers arrived at scene, took down the suspect and secured the perimeter in a timely manner.
Students from Assistant Professor Aileen Gallagher’s “News Writing and Reporting” class in the Newhouse School were on hand to cover the event as if it was a real event. The students were required to file breaking news stories from the scene, along with posting tweets and a wrap-up story 90 minutes after the final news conference with Chief Robert Maldonado.
This was a great annual exercise for both the DPS and the class from Newhouse.
