You can fill out our online bike registration form at any time.
The form will be sent to a Crime Prevention officer, who will complete the necessary paperwork and then contact you to arrange a convenient time for you to visit our office with your bicycle and pick up your registration sticker.
If you’d like to stop by the office and register your bike, please call ahead (315.443.3873) to schedule an appointment. At your appointment, a DPS officer will affix your bicycle with a registration number and keep that information on record in the event of a theft.
When you register your bike at Sims Hall, or see a DPS Bike Officer out on patrol, feel free to ask about bicycle safety recommendations, such as:
- Wear a helmet for your safety, and ensure that you are wearing it properly.
- Always obey the rules of the road. Know when you have the right of way and which side of the road you should be travelling on.
- Never wear headphones or earbuds when riding your bike.
- New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, Section 1236 includes requirements to have lights and reflectors on both the front and back of your bike if you are travelling after sunset, and a bell or another device capable of giving an audible signal.
For questions, call the Department of Public Safety at 315.443.2224 or e-mail Commander Vernon Thompson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
