At the beginning of the Spring 2020 semester, the students for community safety program transitioned into the residential safety program. With this new program, 96 full-time residential community safety officers (RCSO) were hired to provide coverage 24 hours per day during the academic year and during summer programming for the 23 residence halls on campus. These individuals all hold the New York State security guard certification.
The primary responsibility of the RCSO is to monitor and control access to residence halls by checking the identification of all persons entering the residence halls and sign in visitors and guests who are escorted by a hall resident. They act as eyes and ears for DPS, recognizing and reporting suspicious, illegal or unauthorized activity in residence halls. Each station is equipped with direct radio communications to contact our emergency communications center whenever necessary.
The program operates out of Watson Hall and can be reached at 315.443.3202.
