Public Safety Notice: Robbery

On Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Syracuse Police Department (SPD) requested the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to assist a student who was reportedly robbed at the corner of Harrison and Ostrom Avenues just before 12:20 a.m. The student says an unknown male got out of his vehicle before approaching the student and stealing their phone. The suspect then got back into the vehicle and headed south on Ostrom Ave.

The suspect is described as a male, in his early 20s, wearing a gray shirt. He was driving a red SUV.

Public Safety Update: Robbery at Huntington Hall

On Monday, January 27, 2020, at approximately 7:15 p.m., a student contacted the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to report a robbery. The student says the incident happened at 6:30 p.m., when the suspect – an unknown male – approached the student asking to borrow money because his car ran out of gas. As the student opened their wallet, the suspect grabbed it, took cash and discarded the wallet on the ground. The suspect then fled out of Huntington Hall and headed north on University Avenue and then west on Marshall Street.

The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’10 wearing a black Verizon jacket and blue jeans.

Public Safety Notice: Robbery

On Monday, January 27th, 2020 at approximately 6:30 p.m., DPS received a report of a robbery that occurred at Huntington Hall. The Syracuse Police Department and the Department of Public Safety are on the scene and investigating this incident. Public Safety Update: DPS Identifies Individual Responsible for Jan. 21 Bias Incident

Department of Public Safety Identifies Individual Responsible for January 21 Bias Incident 

The individual responsible for the anti-Semitic graffiti in the lower level of Bird Library has been identified and referred to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, the Department of Public Safety announced today.

In accordance with federal privacy laws, we will not be sharing the identity of the individual. However, this development should serve as a reminder that these incidents will be investigated vigorously and individuals will be held responsible in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct, as well as pertinent laws.

The Department of Public Safety continues to actively investigate the series of bias incidents that occurred on campus in the fall semester. And, thanks to the generosity of a concerned donor, a reward is available for those who provide information that leads to the identification of a responsible individual. Public Safety Informational Notice: Off-Campus Burglaries

The Syracuse Police Department (SPD) is investigating a string of burglaries that have occurred in the east campus neighborhood during the semester break. During this time, from Dec. 15 to Jan. 15, 13 incidents were reported to SPD. While it is unclear if these incidents are related, SPD reports that, in each instance, the alleged burglars have entered properties through unlocked windows and doors.

To enhance your safety and protect your personal space and belongings, we recommend taking the following steps:

  • Lock all exterior doors and windows – even when you are home.
  • Report all suspicious people, activity and behavior immediately.
  • Store valuable items in secure places and lock interior doors when you are out.
  • Record serial numbers of electronic equipment.
