Public Safety Update: Gunshot Incident on Euclid Ave

On Saturday, October 23, 2021, at approximately 1:40 a.m., the Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a “shots fired” call near the intersection of Euclid and Sumner Avenues. Upon arrival, the Syracuse Police Department (SPD) had already apprehended the suspect, who we have since come to learn is a Syracuse University student. SPD reportedly observed the student throw a handgun in the backyard of a home in the 500 block of Euclid Avenue. The student was arrested and has been charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, both felonies, and being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center. Additionally, the student has been issued an interim suspension from the University, which includes the immediate removal of the student from our campus.
