Community Service Officer (CSO)
CSOs perform a variety of security, safety, and community service duties associated with the protection of life and property, maintenance of order, crime detection and prevention, and the enforcement of all University rules, policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- May be required to work a fixed post or mobile assignment.
- Act as a backup or an assist unit to a PSO on complaints requiring a two-officer response, as directed by a supervisor.
Requirements:
- Graduation from high school/diploma.
- Must be able to obtain NYS security guard license.
Public Safety Officer (PSO)
PSOs are placed in training to be responsible for the detection and prevention of crime; for enforcement of University rules, policies, and procedures; the protection of life and property; and enforcement of local and state laws. Good customer service skills and proven oral and written communication skills are essential.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to and investigate all violations of University rules and regulations, city and county ordinances, state and federal crimes and violations, vehicle accidents, injuries and fires.
Requirements:
- Successfully passing all requirements of the NYS Campus Peace Officer Academy or NYS Police Academy.
- Successfully pass 480 hours of field training.
- Selected candidates will be required to successfully pass physical agility testing.
Public Safety Dispatcher
This is a demanding position that is responsible for all law enforcement emergency and non-emergency safety and security communications for the University community.
Responsibilities:
- Prioritize all radio and telephone communications; answer multiple telephone lines; and dispatch patrol and other units to respond.
- Monitor CCTV as assigned and report and/or dispatch anomalies.
Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain NYS security guard license.
- Successfully pass 480 hours of field training and background investigation, including, but not limited to drug screening and psychological exam.
