Public Safety Notice: Robbery, 7/7/2015

For the protection and safety of SU students, faculty, staff and neighbors, the Department of Public Safety releases the following alert:

Robbery

Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at approximately 7:42 pm

Case # 15-357154

1200 block East Adams Street

A student reported a robbery that occurred off campus. The student reports he was walking eastbound in the 1200 block of East Adams St. when he was approached by a male from behind. The suspect got his attention by saying “give me your stuff”. The suspect did display a knife at the time. The victim gave the suspect his bag which contained personal property. The suspect fled the scene on foot heading west on East Adams St. The student sustained a minor abrasion to his right elbow from the strap of his bag and refused medical attention.

Off Campus Attempted Strong-Arm Robbery

Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at approximately 6:20 pm

SPD Case # 15-335968

1000 block of Comstock Ave

A student reported an attempted strong arm robbery that occurred off campus. The student reports he was walking southbound in the 1000 block of Comstock Ave. when he was approached by four to five unknown males who were walking northbound towards him. One of the suspects asked to use his cell phone, the student replied, no and walked away.

Tuesday, January 27, 2015 between 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm

SPD Case # 15-134841

1200 Block of East Adams Street

A student reported being robbed by two unknown males in the 1200 Block of E. Adams Street, between Comstock Ave and Walnut Ave. The student reports she was walking alone westbound on E. Adams Street when she was approached by the suspects. One of the suspects pushed the student to the ground and stole her satchel containing money. No weapons were displayed.

The Syracuse Police Department is actively investigating a number of residential burglaries that occurred the last couple of weeks to student and non-student residences. The affected areas are located in the areas east and north of campus. The houses and apartments were entered through unlocked windows and doors.

BICYCLE SECURITY

6/26/2013

DPS reports that several bicycle thefts have occurred on campus in recent weeks. Although the stolen bicycles were secured to bike racks with cable locks, the locks were easily cut. To help reduce bicycle thefts, owners are advised to properly utilize a Ubolt type lock (as seen below) to secure their bicycle frames directly to a bike rack. These U-bolt locks are available at the Syracuse University Bookstore in the Schine Student Center at a 25 percent discount for students, faculty and staff.
