For the protection and safety of SU students, faculty, staff and neighbors, the Department of Public Safety releases the following alert:

OFF CAMPUS Reckless Endangerment Incidents – SPD and DPS Case #’s 16-486466, 16-473824 and 16-454314

Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at approximately 10:00 p.m. – 1000 block of Madison Street.
Sunday, September 25, 2016 at approximately 12:30 am – 400 block of Ostrom Avenue.
Sunday, September 11, 2016 at approximately 11:30 pm – 300 block of Euclid Avenue.

In two incidents students were walking in the area and reported seeing a dark colored four door sedan with what appeared to be two occupants driving slowly in the area they were walking. In the third incident the student reported the vehicle to be a dark colored SUV with four occupants. As the vehicle passed, the students heard what they thought to be a BB gun firing BB’s. In all cases the students were struck with what appeared to be BB’s fired from a BB gun.
DPS asks your help in identifying the suspects if you were in the vicinity at the time of the incident. For this purpose, the following is the description of the suspects: males, unknown age, in a dark colored 4 door vehicle, no further description. • Walk, bike or jog in groups of three or more, away from bushes, cars, and other objects a suspect could hide behind.
• Plan your walking travel times by avoiding late to early morning hours.
• Be aware of your surroundings: look and listen. Headphones and cell phones can create tunnel vision.
• Travel in well-lit and populated areas.
• Keep porch lights on at night.
• Don’t approach strangers or let them get close to you.
• If you think someone is following you, switch directions or cross the street. Go toward an open business or lighted house.
• Have your house or car keys in hand before you reach your door.
• Know where campus blue light alarms are and how to use them.
• If someone tries to rob you, don’t resist. Give up your property, not your life.
• If you are in a safe place to do so, attempt to get a description of the suspect(s) and any associated vehicles or license plate numbers.

SPD Case # 16-464230, DPS Case # 16-464294 (September 21, 2016)

As an update to the Off Campus Strong-Arm robbery Public Safety Notice issues on September 18th (SPD Case # 16-463374 ), The Department of Public Safety issues this update, as a second incident was subsequently reported as occurring in the same area two block away and several hours earlier on the same date.

Sunday, September 18, 2016 at approximately 3:30 am. – 300 block Stratford Ave.
On Monday, September 19, 2016 the DPS received a delayed report from a student regarding a robbery that occurred off campus. The student reports he was walking westbound in the 300 block of Stratford Ave, which is in the vicinity of the previously reported incident on Stratford Ave. The student states he was approached by three unknown males. The student turned over personal property during the robbery. The student reports one of the suspects displayed what appeared to be a firearm. A white vehicle approached and the suspects ordered the student to enter the vehicle. The suspects fled the scene in an easterly direction. The student was released a short distance away from the scene. The student sustained minor injuries.

DPS asks your help in identifying the suspects if you were in the vicinity at the time of the incident. For this purpose, the following is the description of the suspects:
3 Males, #1 male 5’9” all dark clothing, short curly hair. #2 Male, 5’6”, dark sweatpants and white T-Shirt, buzzed hair or bald. #3 Male, 5’10”, thin build, dark sweatpants.

OFF CAMPUS STRONG-ARM ROBBERY (Date Issued: September 18, 2016 SPD Case # 16-463374)
Sunday, September 18, 2016 at approximately 8:57 p.m. – 500 block Stratford Street.

An alumni reported a strong arm robbery that occurred off campus. The alumni reported she was walking in the 500 block of Stratford Street. when she was approached by three unknown males who exited a vehicle and approached her. The suspects used physical force to forcibly steal the alumni’s purse. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle. The alumni sustained no injuries and
refused medical attention. There was no threat of a weapon. DPS asks your help in identifying the suspects if you were in the vicinity at the time of the incident. For this purpose, the following is the description of the suspects: 3 Males, 12 to 14 years of age, One male possibly wearing a white T-shirt, were last seen in a white vehicle.

For the protection and safety of SU students the Department of Public Safety releases the following information: Suspicious Incidents (Date Issued: 9/15/16)

The purpose of this notice is to advise students of suspicious incidents happening in and around campus. There have been a few incidents where a female, late 40’s, medium build, approximately 5’7” tall and 200 lbs has been approaching and entering student’s vehicles demanding money and rides. The suspect has been telling students that she is a nurse and is pregnant.

If anyone has any information regarding these incidents or has been a victim of such incident, please contact the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety at (315) 443-2224.
