Public Safety Update: Arrest Made in Recent Robbery Incident

The Syracuse Police Department and the Department of Public Safety have made an arrest in connection with the robbery that occurred on Sunday, Sept. 27 at the intersection of Ostrom Ave. and Clarendon St. The suspect has been arrested and charged with first degree robbery and third degree possession of a weapon.

Public Safety Informational Notice: Off-Campus Burglaries and Thefts

The Syracuse Police Department is investigating several reported burglaries that occurred recently in the east campus neighborhood. Those responsible reportedly enter properties and vehicles through open or unlocked windows and doors.

To enhance your safety and protect your personal space and belongings, please take the following steps:

  • Lock all exterior doors and windows – even when you are home.
  • Report all suspicious people, activity and behavior immediately.
  • Store valuable items in secure places and lock interior doors when you are out.
  • Record serial numbers of electronic equipment.
  • Do not leave any valuables in your vehicle and keep it locked at all times.

Public Safety Update: Robbery

On Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, at approximately 1:45 a.m., two students were reportedly robbed at the intersection of Ostrom Ave. and Clarendon Street. The students reported that the suspect – an unknown male – pulled up near them, exited his vehicle and approached them. The suspect displayed what appeared to be a knife and demanded their belongings. One student gave the suspect $7. The suspect then returned to the vehicle and fled the scene. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a male, wearing a black shirt, black hat, and a black bandana covering his face. The vehicle is described as a tan sedan with multiple dents on the side of it.

Public Safety Notice Robbery

On Sunday, September 27, 2020 at approximately 2:02 a.m., DPS received a report of a robbery that occurred at the intersection of Ostrom Ave and Clarendon Street. The Syracuse Police Department and the Department of Public Safety are on the scene and investigating this incident. We ask that you stay away from the area, at this time and that you call DPS at 315.443.2224, should you have information regarding this incident. More information to follow.

Public Safety Update: Alleged Incident Determined to be False Report

On Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, at approximately 12:53 a.m., a 911 caller reported being threatened by a man with a weapon in Oakwood Cemetery. The Syracuse Police Department (SPD) requested the assistance of the Department of Public Safety to secure the perimeter while a search was conducted. Upon further investigation, SPD determined the 911 caller falsely reported the allegations, concluding that no incident ever actually occurred.
