Starting at the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester, first-year residence halls, as well as 727 S. Crouse (formerly known as The Marshall) and 801 University Ave. (previously the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center), will receive dedicated security staffing, with 28 full-time academic year residence community security officers (RCSOs) and six full-time RCSO coordinators. The RCSOs will provide staffing from 10 p.m. – 8 a.m., seven days a week. A Residential Security Aid (RSA) will provide coverage from 5 – 10 p.m. Outside of these hours, residents will continue to be required to swipe their SU ID for entrance into their residence hall.
The primary responsibility of the RCSO is to monitor and control access to residence halls by checking the identification of all persons entering the residence halls and sign in visitors and guests who are escorted by a hall resident. They act as eyes and ears for DPS, recognizing and reporting suspicious, illegal or unauthorized activity in residence halls. Each station is equipped with direct radio communications to contact our emergency communications center whenever necessary.
The program operates out of Watson Hall and can be reached at 315.443.3202.
