Holding Each Other Accountable to Remain on Campus

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff and Families:

By now, you are aware that the University is currently experiencing a concerning increase in COVID-19 cases within the campus community. Almost this entire increase in COVID-positive cases can be traced to one off-campus party. This fact, and our current situation, should serve as a clear and visible reminder of just how vulnerable we all are to a small number of individuals not upholding the Stay Safe Pledge.

Public Safety Update: Attempted Sexual Assault

At approximately 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, the Syracuse Police Department responded to a report of a student being attacked while running through Oakwood Cemetery. The suspect reportedly jumped out of the bushes to attack the student. The student began to scream and another runner went to assist. At that point, the suspect grabbed the victim’s cell phone and fled the scene, on foot, heading northbound.

The witness said the man was not wearing any clothes and described him as tall, white, 30-40 years of age, athletic build, short blonde hair and no facial hair.

Syracuse University is focused on supporting the impacted students and is providing resources and services.

Public Safety Notice Sexual Assault

On Wednesday, October 7th, 2020 at approximately 7:45 a.m., DPS received a report of an attempted sexual assault that occurred at Oakwood Cemetary. The Syracuse Police Department and the Department of Public Safety are on the scene and investigating this incident. We ask that you stay away from the area at this time, and that you call DPS at 315.443.2224, should you have information regarding this incident. More information to follow.

Public Safety Update: Arrest Made in Recent Robbery Incident

The Syracuse Police Department and the Department of Public Safety have made an arrest in connection with the robbery that occurred on Sunday, Sept. 27 at the intersection of Ostrom Ave. and Clarendon St. The suspect has been arrested and charged with first degree robbery and third degree possession of a weapon.

Public Safety Informational Notice: Off-Campus Burglaries and Thefts

The Syracuse Police Department is investigating several reported burglaries that occurred recently in the east campus neighborhood. Those responsible reportedly enter properties and vehicles through open or unlocked windows and doors.

To enhance your safety and protect your personal space and belongings, please take the following steps:

  • Lock all exterior doors and windows – even when you are home.
  • Report all suspicious people, activity and behavior immediately.
  • Store valuable items in secure places and lock interior doors when you are out.
  • Record serial numbers of electronic equipment.
  • Do not leave any valuables in your vehicle and keep it locked at all times.
