DPS Needs Your Feedback

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is conducting a survey during the month of October. Now through Tuesday, October 31, we invite members of the campus community to provide us their feedback on our services.

The survey can be completed at the following locations:

  • Schine Student Center Atrium: Thursday, October 19 and Thursday, October 26, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Bird Library: Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday, 4 p.m. to midnight

It can also be completed online through Qualtrics.

For those who participate, you will be entered in a raffle for dinner and a movie for two. To be eligible, you must either complete the survey in person at one of the two locations listed above or email a screen shot of the thank you screen you receive after completing the survey to CJ McCurty at cmccurty@syr.edu.

2017 Annual Security Report Now Available

The 2017 version of Your Safety and Security at Syracuse University is now available on our website. This report documents the past three calendar years’ information about select campus crimes, including statistics, and detail the school’s security policies and procedures.

Public Safety Informational Notice: Off-Campus Vandalism and Vehicle Break-Ins

For the protection and safety of Syracuse University students, faculty, staff and neighbors, the Department of Public Safety releases the following informational notice:

Off-Campus Vandalism and Vehicle Break-Ins

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Syracuse Police Department (SPD) are actively investigating multiple off-campus vandalism and vehicle break-is that have occurred in recent days in Syracuse neighborhoods located to the east of campus. The alleged suspects have been breaking into vehicles for the purpose of stealing items. In addition, several other vehicles have been vandalized without anything being stolen.

To enhance your safety and protect your personal belongings, we recommend taking the following steps:

  • Park your vehicle in an area you are familiar with and that has proper lighting;
  • Report all suspicious people, activity and behavior immediately; and
  • Store valuable items in secure places where they are out of plain sight.

Public Safety Informational Notice: Off-Campus Burglaries

For the protection and safety of Syracuse University students, faculty, staff and neighbors, the Department of Public Safety releases the following informational notice:

Off-Campus Burglaries

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Syracuse Police Department (SPD) are actively investigating several off-campus burglaries that have occurred in recent days in Syracuse neighborhoods located to the north and east of campus. The alleged suspects have been entering through unlocked windows and doors.

To enhance your safety and protect your personal space and belongings, we recommend taking the following steps:

  • Lock all exterior doors and windows – even when you are home.
  • Report all suspicious people, activity and behavior immediately.
  • Store valuable items in secure places and lock interior doors when you are out.
  • Record serial numbers of electronic equipment.
