Public Safety Informational Notice

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a string of burglaries that have occurred recently on South Campus. The alleged burglars have entered properties and vehicles through unlocked windows and doors.

To enhance your safety and protect your personal space and belongings, we recommend taking the following steps:

-Lock all exterior doors and windows – even when you are home.
-Report all suspicious people, activity, and behavior immediately.
-Store valuable items in secure places and lock interior doors when you are out.
-Record serial numbers of electronic equipment.

Public Safety Update

On Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, at approximately 12:43 a.m., a vehicle was stolen from an off-campus residence in the 900 block of Ackerman Ave. The vehicle, a black 2008 GMC Envoy was parked behind the house with its keys sitting inside. That’s when the suspects reportedly made off with it, colliding with houses on both sides of the driveway as they drove away. The vehicle was last seen heading north on Ackerman Ave.

The suspects are described as three males; no further description is available at this time. No injuries were reported.

Public Safety Notice Incident

On Saturday August 28, 2021 at approximately 12:43 AM, DPS received a report of a Stolen Vehicle that occurred at Ackerman Ave and Stratford Ave. The Syracuse Police Department and the Department of Public Safety are on the scene and investigating this incident. We ask that you stay away from the area, at this time and that you call DPS at 315.443.2224, should you have information regarding this incident. More information to follow.

Public Safety Update: Attempted Armed Robbery

On Friday, June 4, 2021, at approximately 6:45 p.m., a student was the victim of an attempted robbery in the 900 block of E. Genesee Street. The student reported while attempting to sell their laptop computer, the suspect – an unknown male – displayed what appeared to be a black colored handgun and attempted to take the laptop computer without rendering payment. The suspect was unsuccessful and fled the area on foot. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a teenage male, wearing pajama style black pants, a red jacket and white sneakers and was last seen fleeing northbound on S. Crouse Ave. between E. Fayette St. and Erie Blvd. East.
